Its come to our attention that PAX and Dragon*Con are both Labor Day weekend this year. I'm surprised that Penny Arcade scheduled it like that, Dragon*Con is ALWAYS that weekend. Oh well.

Personally, I'm going to Dragon*Con in Atlanta; not only is it within driving distance of me, its a more general purpose event. As much as I love gaming, I'd rather go to somethng more diverse. Kinda sad though, because more people I know are going to PAX.

How about you guys? Planning on attending one or the other? Like Ariock's doing in his post with PAX, those of us going the other direction should probably start planning the Atlanta trip now.

While Dragoncon has always been that weekend, the events ARE on opposite sides of the country, so I don't know how much conflict that presents.

well, I wanted to do both...

Well, I know a few people from this side of the country who are going to PAX, so I think it might hurt attendance of both.
It effects guests too, Wil Wheaton normally shows up at both, but he can only do PAX this year.

I am going to PAX. The heck with you.

Oh yeah, because its SO FAR for you, such a sacrifice to go to PAX!

I'd love to go to both, but my bank account tells me to go to the one that I can carpool to with other Charlotteans.

I know, I'm just giving you a hard time because I'm disappointed.

awww, thanks

I am too! I'd love to see all you guys again. Maybe there's something else that everyone can get to?

Considering I'm crazy far from both, I'm just going to go with the one that gives me free room to sleep-PAX!

You can get that easily enough at DragonCon, too.

Are you going this year Clay? Do you stay in Atlanta, or drive home at night?
30th-Jan-2008 01:55 am (UTC)
I stay in Atlanta; there's too much to miss. I haven't decided to go, yet; I'm waiting to see how long it takes to catch up with the credit cards.

Yes, but then I wouldn't be visiting my friend Erin, who moved out there.

Before the dates were announced, I figured I'd go to DragonCon, and then PAX if there were funds available. DragonCon is so close, and they are friends I only get to see that once a year.

Dragon Con = alawys labor day weekend.

PAX = last weekend of august.

In the several years that PAX has been around, this is the first year that Labor Day has been on September 1st, so this is the first collision. Blame the calendar, rather than either event for stepping on the other one's toes.

Aw damn. Was looking forward to meeting you at PAX!

Well, since my jobless butt is not getting out to Washington, and I live in Atlanta (and might still at that point), the smart money's on DCON. On the other hand, I always manage to find myself out of town of otherwise committed DCON weekend. I'd kinda prefer if it were not on a holiday weekend.

I'm actually somewhat tempted towards Dragon*Con this year. On the other hand, going to PAX would mean getting back home for a bit. :)

I wanted to do both, but had my heart set on PAX before I knew of the conflict. Unless my potential new job sends me to DCon, I'll be PAXing.
