I'm showing my age, I'm sure, but no one tops Carl Sagan. Besides, as much as I like Phil, he's also a terrible snob I've discovered. And not about stupid people, but about smart ones. We invited him to speak at the Mensa Annual Gathering, and he didn't merely turn us down, he trashed Mensans in the process. I was somewhat nonplussed.

Is that perhaps because there was a "metaphysical track" option at the con?

Phil's a hardcore skeptic and woo-woo nonsense debunker. I wouldn't imagine that would sit well with him.

Well, that was why the M-Atheists were inviting him, to counter that crap. We NEEDED him! :) Mensans are just as guilty as everyone else of being inflicted with nonsense. Being capable of learning quickly doesn't mean they actually DO it. Look at Scott Adams, global warming and evolution denier. But Phil seemed to have met a jackass Mensan and so we were all awful, which he really should know better than to make such generalizations. It's bad LOGIC!
