I'm sure this has happened to some of you guys.
I was out, minding my own business at Target, first looking at video games, then dressers and mirrors for the bedroom (we're living out of Rubbermaid storage bins at the moment). So I'm examining a very nice mirror that would look great in our bedroom, when a young~ish dude, about my age, white, clean-cut, stops and says "Hey! How's it going? Where do we know each other from...?" Cue the conversation where I'm asked probing questions about where I work, and if i like it there, and if i'm looking for any "side opportunities". I always say that I'm not interested and walk away, but i always really really want to say "only if they don't involve harrassing other people at malls".
I'm really curious if anyone ever falls for these multi-level marketing ploys (well, obviously THESE guys did, or they wouldn't be out there, looking for recruits), or exactly what the end-product that they're selling is (not that the end-product in a pyramid scheme is really that important anyway). Of course, as soon as I were to ask one of these questions, well, they'd have me. They'd try to get my number, try to get me to "come over this weekend, i'm having some people over" (ie: "other suckers who i've managed to con"). My other question is, is it one nation-wide pyramid that's tailored to well groomed white males age 21-30? Or is it multiple schemes and one of the standard tricks is to seek out others of your own demographic in order to facilitate trust?
Anyone else have experience with these guys? Anyone actually start to get sucked in to a pyramid scheme?
Edit: looks like it might be

"To get new bodies they resort to all sorts of techniques and methods - Frequent the malls...wherever there's people they can strike up a conversation with, that's where they go. What they're looking for is a name and, if they can get it, a phone number. Anybody's fair game, but
people in their 20s and 30s are most sought after.
...Thus techniques are taught, like "
Don't I know you from somewhere?", and "
You look familiar to me."..."
